Post-impact image

Subsurface ice, exposed to sunlight, boils off in clouds of water vapor, after one of THOR's two impactors has struck. The THOR orbiter will study the development of both craters after the impacts. Click on the image to download a larger version. Image credit: Arizona State University/Ron Miller

THOR videos

Download a video that shows THOR's approach to Mars and Mars orbit insertion. At this point in the mission, both impactors have already struck and we see THOR turning to make its first observation of the crater left by the larger impactor. Immediately after the observation, THOR fires its engine to slow down and go into an elliptical, 2-hour orbit around Mars. Video credit: Lockheed Martin Space Systems.
